Garni Temple is one of Armenia’s most famous landmarks and the only Greco-Roman temple in the region. A Look into History

Built in the 1st century AD, Garni Temple was dedicated to Mihr, the Armenian sun god. It was commissioned by King Tiridates I, who brought influences from the Roman Empire to Armenia.

The temple’s 24 tall columns, grand entrance, and detailed carvings make it look like something straight out of Ancient Rome! Unlike many other pagan temples, Garni survived after Armenia adopted Christianity in 301 AD. It likely remained because it was used as a royal summer house.

Sadly, an earthquake in 1679 destroyed the temple. But thanks to careful reconstruction in the 1970s, we can still admire its beauty today!
