Itinerary

Day 1Arrival - Wine Art Winery

Upon arrival, check-in at your hotel and prepare for an evening city tour. You’ll explore Yerevan’s iconic landmarks, including Republic Square, the State Opera House, and the Cascade Complex. Then, your first wine experience awaits. We’ll visit a boutique winery in Yerevan where you’ll meet the winemaker, Tigran Avagyan, and enjoy a wine tasting. Dinner will be served outdoors, featuring a traditional Armenian barbecue cooked in a tonir, an underground clay oven. During this unique experience, you’ll also hear Tigran’s fascinating story about his journey into winemaking and the founding of WineArt Winery.

                                                                                                                                            

Day 2Zvartnots Temple - Jraghatspanyan Winery

Today, we journey to the Armavir region, beginning with a visit to the ancient Zvartnots Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site,  deeply connected to the routes of Armenian wine-making traditions. From there, we head to Armavir town to meet a skilled barrel maker and observe the fascinating process of barrel-making. Next, we visit the Jraghatspanyan Winery, where the winemakers focus on rare, indigenous Armenian grape varieties. Here, you’ll enjoy a wine tasting and a delicious lunch while meeting the winemaker, who will share insights into their unique approach to winemaking. Afterward, we continue to the Metsamor Museum to explore its rich history. In the evening, we return to Yerevan.

Day 3Noravanq monastery - Areni 1 Cave - Old Bridge Winery

We begin the day with a visit to the historic Khor Virap Monastery, where you’ll take in breathtaking views of Mount Ararat. Next, we explore the ancient Areni-1 Cave, the site of the world’s oldest known winery, where you’ll dive into Armenia’s deep winemaking history. Afterward, we visit the stunning Noravank Monastery, set against a backdrop of dramatic red cliffs. Later, you’ll experience a special wine tasting featuring wine made from wild grapes, a rare and traditional Armenian wine variety. In the evening, we head to Old Bridge Winery for another wine tasting paired with a delicious dinner. We’ll conclude the day with an overnight stay at the charming Green Stone Hotel.

Day 4Meeting with winemaker in 200 year old bush vineyards

Start the day with a small hike to the bush vineyards, where you’ll enjoy the beauty of the landscape. Meet a winemaker and learn about the unique challenges and joys of growing grapes in this region. Enjoy a wine tasting and a traditional BBQ. Continue the journey through the scenic Selim Pass, a historic trade route with stunning views. Stop for a cheese tasting before heading to Dilijan, where you’ll stay overnight in Dili Town.

Day 5Makaravanq Monastery - Dilvados Distillery

This day is dedicated to the Tavoush region and an organic distillery. We will frist drive to Makaravank Medieval Monastery, one of the quiet corners of Armenia, and a masterpiece of Armenian spiritual architecture. Later head to Dilvados distillery, meet Arnag Avetisyan, a doctor who left a job in the capital city and moved to the village to be closer to nature and enjoy his hobby of distiller making, which later became a business. We will taste Armenian fruit distillers along with different meats baked on the grill. In the evening we will be back to Dilijan for rest and overnight. Explore the charming town of Dilijan, known as the “Switzerland of Armenia.”

Day 6 Cooking Class - Garni Temple - Geghard Monastery

Head to the village of Tsaghkunk, to Chef House guesthouse, and cook with one of the best chefs in Armenia. Here you will cook a local fish and enjoy a local dessert a fruit baked in the over with honey and nuts with herbal tea. Continue to the ancient Geghard Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site carved into the cliffs. Visit the Garni Temple, the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded building in the former Soviet Union.

     

   

Day 7 Levon’s Cave - Wine Museum - Van Ardi Winery

Morning we will visit the fascinating Levon’s Cave, an underground cave of 21 meters depth hand-carved by a local man. In the bottom of the cave a small surprise awaits you representing Armenian culture. Later we will head to the local food market and the bustling Vernissage market, known for crafts and antiques. We will stop in the city for lunch and continue to Armenia winery, to the local wine museum. After the museum, we will head to Van Ardi Winery for a touring wine tasting and dinner with the head winemaker.

                                                                                

Day 8Halde Event / Blind tasting

After breakfast, we’ll drive to Mount Aragats, home to the stunning Lake Kari. Here, we’ll experience the Halde Wine tasting, produced by Maran Winery since 2018. This unique wine is aged underwater in the lake at 3,185 meters above sea level for 12 months, resulting in a softer, richer flavour profile. Join us to savour this exceptional wine and learn about the innovative techniques that make it special. HALDE will be held on 13 July 2025. If you booked another date you will have a blind tasting with an experienced sommelier, get your favourite bottle as a present. 

 

Day 9Departure Day

As your incredible journey through Armenia comes to an end, it’s time to say goodbye. After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have some free time to relax, explore the surroundings, or do any last-minute shopping. Depending on your flight schedule, we will arrange transfers to the airport.

Let’s dive into the essentials to consider before you pack your bags!

Health 

Your health and well-being are important during your travels in Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia. Here are a few health-related tips to help you prepare for your journey:

  • Altitude: Some areas, particularly in Armenia and Georgia, can be at higher altitudes (above 2,400 meters). If you have concerns about high altitudes, especially respiratory,  heart conditions, or high blood pressure consult your doctor beforehand. 
  • Medications: If you take any prescription medications, be sure to bring enough for the entire trip, as well as any necessary documentation. It’s also a good idea to carry a small first-aid kit with essentials like pain relievers, bandages, and hand sanitizer.
  • Water and Food: Tap water in Armenia is generally safe to drink, and you’ll also find many public drinking fountains throughout the country, especially in cities and towns, where you can refill your bottle for free. In Georgia and Azerbaijan, it’s advisable to drink bottled water. Local food is mostly local dishes are mostly pleasing to the European palate․ Bees, lamb, and pork are widely used in meals as well as beans, veggies, greens, and fruits. 
  • Climate: The weather can vary depending on the time of year and region. Summers can be hot (32-36°C), especially in lowland areas of Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, while mountainous regions may be cooler. It’s important to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and dress in layers to adjust to changing temperatures.
Safety and Security

While general international travel advice always applies, we pride ourselves on having up-to-date knowledge of roads, borders, and local conditions. We never take risks with routes that could compromise safety. This commitment not only protects our reputation but also ensures we provide reliable, responsible travel experiences.

Despite the exceptionally low levels of crime and theft we recommend using a neck wallet or money belt to securely store your passport, tickets, cash, and other important items. Many hotels offer safety deposit boxes for your valuables, and we advise locking your luggage for extra security.

Taxis are generally safe and widely available in cities, often found on nearly every corner. For added convenience and safety, we recommend downloading the Yandex Taxi application, which is available in all three countries.  This app allows you to book rides without the need to bargain, ensuring transparent pricing and reliable service.

Visa and Entry Requirements
  • Armenia and Georgia: Citizens of the USA, the UK, Australia, UAE, and EU member countries are exempt from visas for stays of up to 90 days in Armenia and Georgia. However, confirming the latest requirements before your departure is always a good idea, you can always check with your tour manager. 
  • Azerbaijan: An e-visa is required for travelers visiting Azerbaijan. We provide full Azerbaijan visa support and will need documents to apply for your visa. The visa fee is included in the tour price. 
Travel Insurance

Although travel insurance is not required by law in these countries, it’s always better to be safe and prepared for any unexpected situations during your trip.

Currencies and Payments
  • Armenia – Armenian Dram (AMD).
  • Georgia – Georgian Lari (GEL).
  • Azerbaijan – Azerbaijani Manat (AZN).

Card payment is available in major cities, In all three countries, Visa, Mastercard & AMEX are acceptable. The bank may charge a fee for overseas withdrawals. ATMs are accessible in most of the regional towns, however, when traveling to regions and rural areas it is recommended to have cash in local currency. A balanced mix of cards and cash is the ideal approach. Exchange points with good rates are available in the capital cities.

Solo Travelers

We warmly welcome solo travelers on all our tours! Please note that if you are traveling solo, a single supplement (single room and shared double room per person price difference) is mandatory, and an additional fee will apply. However, if there is another solo traveler of the same gender in your group, we will ask if they are open to sharing a twin room. If both parties agree, we’ll book a twin room, thus you’ll avoid paying the single supplement.

For accommodations in cities, we carefully select tried-and-tested hotels that are centrally located, ensuring you’re near the heart of the city and its main attractions.

In regional areas, we choose the best options within the price segment, providing a comfortable stay that blends relaxation with a unique local experience. Each property is chosen to ensure a balance of quality, convenience, and memorable hospitality.

Tour Transportation

We ensure comfortable and efficient transportation tailored to the size of your group:

  • For 2-3 participants, a professional guide-driver will accompany you throughout the journey.
  • For 4-5 participants, a spacious minivan will be provided.
  • For groups of 6-13 participants, a comfortable 20-seater minibus will be arranged.

All vehicles are well-maintained and air-conditioned to ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience.

Airport Transfers

In all our tours we include airport transfers: 

We will meet you with the Cascade Travel sign if nothing additional is communicated to you. Alternatively, find your name printed on A4 paper. If you cannot find the company of your name sign within 15 minutes after entering the airport arrival hall, call the emergency contact number listed above.

Your arrival transfer is arranged based on the flight information provided to us. If your flight schedule changes or is canceled within 48 hours of arrival, provide the info via email. If you don’t inform us, we will not be able to arrange the transfer, and you’ll need to make your way to the starting hotel at your own expense.

Meals

During your trip, meals are carefully selected to offer a taste of the local cuisine. You’ll enjoy a variety of traditional dishes that showcase the rich culinary heritage of Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan.

Some meals are included in your tour package, typically breakfast and a selection of local lunches or dinners. For meals not included in the tour price.

  • Lunch – 15 EUR
  • Dinner – 25 EUR(including a glass of wine)

These countries are also vegetarian-friendly, with many delicious plant-based options available throughout your journey. 

Please let us know in advance if you have any dietary restrictions or special requests, and we will do our best to accommodate them.

Tipping

Tipping is appreciated for good service, though it is not mandatory. Here are some general guidelines to help you. Tipping is usually done at the end of the tour, in cash, directly to the guide and driver.

  • Guide: 4-5 USD per day for your guide is a fair amount, depending on the quality of service. If you feel the guide has gone above and beyond, you may tip more.
  • Driver:  2-3 USD per day is recommended, though this can be adjusted based on the level of service provided.

Hi Nune, we are back home now and just want to thank you for putting together this itinerary. This was an unforgettable trip, as there was much human touch, meeting locals, winemakers a distiller maker, and the chef Yura. We had a great time exploring Armenia’s wine heritage and never could have thought Armenia was a winemaking country with plenty of domestic grape sorts. One of the best parts was getting to join a harvest with locals in the vineyards. The atmosphere was friendly and we had a lot of fun. Visiting five wineries across different regions gave me a real taste of the country’s terroir. Everything was organized perfectly, allowing me to enjoy the trip. I was amazed at the deep wine knowledge of Sonya the guide, she said she is a licensed wine guide, impressive. I will recommend Cascade Travel to anyone interested in Armenia’s wine tour. We had a wonderful wine tour in Armenia with Cascade Travel. Ani was incredibly communicative and helpful throughout our journey. She welcomed us upon arrival and provided fantastic tips on what to do, where to eat, and where to drink in our spare time in Yerevan.

The tour was multifaceted, allowing us to meet five winemakers who were engaging and shared intricate details about their craft. However, the highlight was winemaker Frunz and his unique Halde event. It was so interesting to see divers swimming under Lake Kari to take out wines that had aged underwater for a year. After pulling out the wine, they donated the first bottle back to the lake where it had aged. This was my first time seeing this process, and it was truly fascinating!

We also enjoyed a cooking masterclass with a chef in Tsaghkunq, where we prepared local fish. Additionally, at the Dilvados distillery, we tasted Armenian fruit distillers paired with various grilled meats.

Had we explored these sites alone, we would have missed the rich cultural nuances of Armenia. Our local guide enriched our experience by sharing valuable insights into the country’s culture and history.

The accommodations were clean, very comfortable, and centrally located in the city center.

We fell in love with Armenia and highly recommend this tour with Cascade Travel!
