Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and prepare for an evening city tour. You’ll explore Yerevan’s iconic landmarks, including Republic Square, the State Opera House, and the Cascade Complex. Then, your first wine experience awaits. We’ll visit a boutique winery in Yerevan where you’ll meet the winemaker, Tigran Avagyan, and enjoy a wine tasting. Wine tastings in Yerevan often feature local varietals like Kangun and Areni Noir, which are rarely exported, and these wines have flavors that reflect Armenia’s unique terroir.
Dinner will be served outdoors, featuring a traditional Armenian barbecue cooked in a tonir, an underground clay oven. During this unique experience, you’ll also hear Tigran’s fascinating story about his journey into winemaking and the founding of WineArt Winery.
Today, we journey to the Armavir region, beginning with a visit to the ancient Zvartnots Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, deeply connected to the routes of Armenian wine-making traditions. From there, we head to Armavir town to meet a skilled barrel maker and observe the fascinating process of barrel-making. Next, we visit the Jraghatspanyan Winery, where the winemakers focus on rare, indigenous Armenian grape varieties. Here, you’ll enjoy a wine tasting and a delicious lunch while meeting the winemaker, who will share insights into their unique approach to winemaking. Afterward, we continue to the Metsamor Museum to explore its rich history. In the evening, we return to Yerevan.

We begin the day with a visit to the historic Khor Virap Monastery, where you’ll take in breathtaking views of Mount Ararat. We will then continue to Rind village to visit Noa Winery, located in the largest vineyard in Armenia, situated at an altitude of 1,450 meters above sea level. Here, you’ll explore the old vines and have the opportunity to meet both the winemaker and the agronomist, who will share fascinating insights about Armenian grape varieties. You’ll enjoy a tasting of five wines, followed by a delicious barbecue lunch. Next, we explore the ancient Areni-1 Cave, the site of the world’s oldest known winery, where you’ll dive into Armenia’s deep winemaking history. The Areni-1 Cave, which dates back to 4100 BCE, shows the earliest evidence of ancient Armenian winemaking. Excavations uncovered fermentation vats, grape seeds, and clay storage vessels.
We’ll conclude the day with an overnight stay at the charming Green Stone Hotel.

Start the day by visiting the stunning Noravank Monastery, set against a backdrop of dramatic red cliffs. Later, you’ll experience a special wine tasting featuring wine made from wild grapes, a rare and traditional Armenian wine variety. A small surprise awaits you at the bottom of the cave, representing Armenian culture. Later, we will head to the local food market and the bustling Vernissage market, known for crafts and antiques. We will stop in the city for lunch and continue to Armenia Winery, to the local wine museum.
After the museum, we will head to Van Ardi Winery for a tour, wine tasting, and dinner with the head winemaker. Hi Nune, we are back home now and just want to thank you for putting together this itinerary. This was an unforgettable trip, as there was much human touch, meeting locals, winemakers a distiller maker, and the chef Yura. We had a great time exploring Armenia’s wine heritage and never could have thought Armenia was a winemaking country with plenty of domestic grape sorts. One of the best parts was getting to join a harvest with locals in the vineyards. The atmosphere was friendly and we had a lot of fun. Visiting five wineries across different regions gave me a real taste of the country’s terroir. Everything was organized perfectly, allowing me to enjoy the trip. I was amazed at the deep wine knowledge of Sonya the guide, she said she is a licensed wine guide, impressive. I will recommend Cascade Travel to anyone interested in Armenia’s wine tour. Thank you for making our holiday a lifetime trip.
We had a wonderful wine tour in Armenia with Cascade Travel. Ani was incredibly communicative and helpful throughout our journey. She welcomed us upon arrival and provided fantastic tips on what to do, where to eat, and where to drink in our spare time in Yerevan.
The tour was multifaceted, allowing us to meet five winemakers who were engaging and shared intricate details about their craft. However, the highlight was winemaker Frunz and his unique Halde event. It was so interesting to see divers swimming under Lake Kari to take out wines that had aged underwater for a year. After pulling out the wine, they donated the first bottle back to the lake where it had aged. This was my first time seeing this process, and it was truly fascinating!
We also enjoyed a cooking masterclass with a chef in Tsaghkunq, where we prepared local fish. Additionally, at the Dilvados distillery, we tasted Armenian fruit distillers paired with various grilled meats.
Had we explored these sites alone, we would have missed the rich cultural nuances of Armenia. Our local guide enriched our experience by sharing valuable insights into the country’s culture and history.
The accommodations were clean, very comfortable, and centrally located in the city center.
We fell in love with Armenia and highly recommend this tour with Cascade Travel!
