During those all days, we have tried our best to show our guests the Armenian culture and history, but the seventh day promises to be full of many more surprises than any other day (though each day is unique in its own way). We will drive into the cultural centre of Armenia, Gyumri. With its lofty black-and-apricot architecture, pottery studios and cute cafes, Armenia’s second-largest city, Gyumri, is the country’s creative capital and historical hub. In Gyumri we will have the chance not only to participate in several master classes, but also to dive into one of the most tragic parts of Armenian history and its dramatic consequences on the country. The tour will continue to another ancient monastery Marmashen with its incredible location over Akhurian River and Armenian-Turkish borders.

If all the ways take us to Rome, then in Armenia they take us to the capital Yerevan. Today’s lunch will be on the road to Yerevan. We will have a stop at Gntuniq supermarket and bakery, where you will have a chance to see how the bread is baked on the walls of a hot oven and will smell a flavour of new baked hot bread. On the way back to Yerevan, the Monastery Saghmosavank will open its doors in front of us- one of the marvels of Armenia, with its marvellous canyon. Then we will go to find out the largest alphabet in the world, where the letters are gravestones and to find our first letters there. A visit to the fortress of Amberd would not bother us a lot. It would be even a shame for us not to pay attention to how the ancestors of today’s Armenian people lived and defended themselves. Due to those fortresses Armenians carried their brave history throughout centuries.

Who said that Armenians were Christian all the time? What about the faith before Christianity? Yes, the previous day of the flight will be dedicated to explore two different faiths of Armenia: temple of Garni – the pagan symbol of the country and the Geghard Monastery – built from rocks with obscure and unbelievable architectural techniques. Both of them are surely close to each other but totally different universes. The region will amaze us with its breathtaking Azat Reservoir, Arch of Charents and so on, but we decided to get back to Yerevan and enjoy Ararat Brandy Company with its amazing museum and factory. Later the day, of course, we will celebrate the end of the tour with a farewell dinner.

We were really interested in exploring the Caucasus region and found Cascade Travel through Horizon Guides. The itinerary looked interesting and I contacted Cascade Travel. I was immediately impressed with my contact with Nune. She answered all my questions and reassured me re the safety of the destinations. My partner is a reluctant walker but again she assured me that the walking would not be too challenging. We booked the 10 day Culltural Exploration in Armenia tour. The itinerary was amazing and provided a great balance between exploring Armenia’s rich history as the birthplace of Christianity as a state religion and an insight into the communities that make up modern Armenia. Our guide Ani was an excellent communicator who managed to take us through the complicated path taken towards present day Armenia and our driver Vahan negotiated the narrow roads and hairpin bends of the Armenian Highlands with great skill. Together they made a great pair and nothing was too much trouble for them. One of our party had mobility issues and Ani was always there to provide extra support.
The accommodation exceeded all expectations. We are used to this type of holiday and usually expect something a little more basic! However a couple of hotels, while modern and comfortable where a distance away from the town centre which made evening explorations a little more difficult. Lunches were included throughout the trip and these were another highlight. Usually hosted by small businesses or families, they were all exceptional. The menus had been planned to give us a taste of the full range of Armenian food and were delicious.
Some of the days we’re long and involved long distances but there was nothing we would have wanted to miss.
Overall we were blown away by beauty and incredible history of this tiny county.
We had a great tour and really enjoyed the itinerary, especially the lunches provided throughout the trip. Nune was very responsive and comes highly recommended!
Me and my husband had a great time in Armenia. We started our journey from the capital city, Yerevan, and then moved to the regions where we witnessed a great deal of historical and cultural heritage that Armenia has. We visited monasteries with impressive and unique architecture, and the locations were lovely as well. Each historical site was situated in a nice location with amazing views, so you get both nature and culture in one. We loved the Tatev monastery which had such impressive architecture and the views were insane. Near Tatev monastery we also had a ride on a cable car with amazing views as well. We also enjoyed our view from the Selim Pass, a scenic mountain road. The hotels were in nice locations as well, and we had a good experience in each of them. Our absolute favorite was the Berlin Hotel in Gyumri. We also tasted a variety of local dishes which I must admit were delicious. Overall the tour was organized really well and our guide Arthur ensured that we had an amazing time.
We a family of 4 traveled to Armenia in October 2023. We booked cultural tour to Armenia and traveled with guide/driver Tigran a historian and very knowledgeable person with a good sense of humor. He did his best to make our trip memorable. We loved the spontaneous experience of being guests to his friend in Areni village where we had Armenian-style BBQ and home-made wine. The tour is overall well-designed
We are truly grateful for our tour guide-driver Arthur, who made our 10-day tour an unforgettable experience. He’s a friendly, cheerful, and comfortable person to deal with. Highly recommended company.
