Day by day itinerary

Day 1Arrival and Yerevan city tour

Biking-lovers , welcome to Armenia! With this day we officially announce the start of the cycling program around Armenia. After the arrival at Zvartnots international airport, we will be transferred to Yerevan and get checked in the hotel. On this day, surely no kind of biking is scheduled, so as not to overload ourselves and enjoy the process as a whole.  Instead, we will have a meeting with our cycling guide, have a briefing of tour routes, in compliance with some instructions, information on the road condition, elevations etc. Following a couple of hours of briefing, a free evening to enjoy the oldest city of the world is waiting for us. The capital is the burning spotlight of the country where the best musicians, artists, and people are gathered to provide unforgettable memories to Yerevan visitors.  A refreshing evening with cool jazz performance would not bother us a lot.

Day 2Yerevan-Garni - Geghard –Yerevan

So here we go. Our first day of the biking trail is chosen deliberately  to warm-up our muscles and body before challenging us with more difficult trails. The start will be from Charenc Arch, a monument 27 km away from Yerevan, where we will be transferred by car. The enormous monument gives a breathtaking view over Biblical Mount Ararat by making the place a favourite tourist attraction. Starting from the Charents Arch the 60 km long cycling trail takes us to the ancient pagan temple of Garni. The latter is the only standing proof of Armenians’ previous beliefs and faiths by providing remarkable historical data, and mesmerising views over the gorges and highlands. After taking a break, our trail needs to be continued. Our next destination is the 4th-century Geghard Monastery- a partially rock-curved monastery which will cut from the noisy reality and is an admiring spot for a break. The monastery is the last destination for today. Our back will be in the same way by having the car following or leading us to help whenever needed.

Day 3Exploring the Land of Water

Our third day of biking starts from a small village hidden among mountains, Hartavan, where we are transferred by car from Yerevan. The village is located at a high altitude of 1800m above the sea level,  thereby becoming a great source for  fresh air, water, and healthy food. The second stop point of Bjni welcomes us for having lunch carried with us in lunch boxes, trying mineral freshwater and visiting an old castle. Just for your information, Armenia is considered as the land of water, while Bjni is one of its spa resorts with fresh water and natural resorts. However, we cannot wait too long, since the blue-eyed queen is waiting for us. The 70 km biking trail ends in Sevan, where our car will transfer us to the town of Martuni, where our hostess waits for us overnight.

Day 4Visit Armenian Blue Eyed Beauty

It is the time for us to challenge ourselves with much longer distances reaching up to 100 km a day. The cycling starts from the town Martuni, where we have stayed, and goes around the biggest part of lake Sevan. The latter fills our trail with gorgeous landscapes and unforgettable views over the blue-eyed queen. The end of the trail is at the village of Artanish, near lake Sevan. For your information, the land is recognized as the Prime Butterfly Area with lots of species of butterflies and the famous bird watching site of Armenia. The length of the trail is 98 km by providing the highest peak of the whole tour program – 2100m above the sea level. We will stay in Artanish overnight.

Day 5Heading to the Armenian Switzerland

Our fresh breakfast with a view over the lake will start yet another interesting day with 70 km of length in pocket. We need to say ciao to the queen lake and start to climb the mountain with our bikes. The first stop of the day is Chambarak – a municipal town in the same province with 11th century Church and lots of khachkars – Armenian traditional cross-stones, unique only to the Armenian culture. Following the beautiful endless horizon, we end our day in Gosh Village. We will visit Goshavank Monastery already by car. As mentioned above we will also explore Armenia, so Goshavank could not be left from the list. It is a 13th-century monastery which keeps some of the best examples of Armenian Khachkars. No better place to have overnight than the city of Dilijan – another touristic centre of Armenia.

Day 6Back to the Capital

On the last day of the program, we definitely need to return back to the capital. The trail ends in the capital Yerevan where we will get ready to leave the country.

In Georgia and Azerbaijan, it’s advisable to drink bottled water. Local food is mostly local dishes are mostly pleasing to the European palate․ Bees, lamb, and pork are widely used in meals as well as beans, veggies, greens, and fruits.

Summers can be hot (32-36°C), especially in lowland areas of Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, while mountainous regions may be cooler. It’s important to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and dress in layers to adjust to changing temperatures.

We never take risks with routes that could compromise safety. This commitment not only protects our reputation but also ensures we provide reliable, responsible travel experiences.

Solo Traveller

I want to thank you for the great cycling tour Arthur organized for us. I loved the trails especially the one around Lake Sevan, elevations do not change often, the ride is pleasant and the views are just fantastic. We enjoyed our stays at hotels along Lake Sevan especially the one that was pleasant with an outdoor pool. Overall Armenia is good for road cycling tours, nature is diverse, and food is tasty. We used mainly secondary roads in excellent condition.
