Uncover the Tranquillity and Historical Treasures of Makaravank

If you’re looking for a quiet escape and a peaceful retreat tucked away in the Armenian countryside, this hidden gem is definitely worth a visit. Surrounded by lush greenery and ancient architecture, Makaravank Monastery is a perfect spot to unwind, relax, and connect with nature.

Makaravank monastery, dating back to the 11th century, is a fascinating glimpse into Armenia’s rich history. Furthermore, if you’re interested in the spiritual heritage of Armenia, it’s a perfect place to explore with its stunning building and deep cultural roots.

A Tale of Tragedy and Dedication

According to the history of Makaravank, it was constructed by a master named Makar and his son. The son would cut, smooth, and decorate the stones, while the father built the structure. As the walls rose higher, Makar worked from the unfinished walls, spending nights there until the building was complete. One day, Makar noticed that the stones weren’t stacking properly and the ornaments were inconsistent. When he asked about his son, he noticed that the boy was ill and passed away. Devastated, he threw himself from the wall of the monastery and died. Master Makar was buried beneath the walls, which was later named Makaravank in his honor.
