A Tale of Tragedy and Dedication

According to the history of Makaravank, it was constructed by a master named Makar and his son. The son would cut, smooth, and decorate the stones, while the father built the structure. As the walls rose higher, Makar worked from the unfinished walls, spending nights there until the building was complete. One day, Makar noticed that the stones weren’t stacking properly and the ornaments were inconsistent. When he asked about his son, he noticed that the boy was ill and passed away. Devastated, he threw himself from the wall of the monastery and died. Master Makar was buried beneath the walls, which was later named Makaravank in his honor.
