Hello on board, folks! Welcome to the capital of Armenia, Yerevan. Õ•ur first stop will be at the statue of Mother Armenia – the symbol of strength, solitude and patriotism. From here we have an amazing opportunity to admire the city crowned with the Biblical Mount Ararat with a bird’s eye view. By continuing our way, the tour takes us to the Cascade Complex which 572 steps are a great source of warming up our muscles before the upcoming challenges. The favourite spot of the locals with its modern cafes and exclusive architectural exhibitions is yet the beginning part of the central district of the city. So, by crossing through Opera and Ballet House and Northern Avenue we will find ourselves right in the centre of Yerevan – the Republic Square. Here our bus is waiting for us to take us to a hotspot of Armenian brandies – Yerevan Brandy Company, for excursion and tasting to give a grand ending of the first day.

Day 2Hell Canyon Rock Climbing

The trip to the 4th century Khor Virap Monastery, where the adoption of Christianity as a state religion has set its roots, announces the beginning of the second day. In addition to its remarkable architecture and the legendary stories, the monastery awards us with a splendid view over the Biblical Mount Ararat, under which slopes it is actually situated. But we cannot just stop here. The one-hour long drive will take us to the Infernal Gorge or even Hell Canyon. With its red burning colours, and rocky gorges the Hell Canyon is an interesting destination to start our active and adventurous tour. After a coffee/tea break with Armenian sweets, safety briefings, and introductory lectures on equipment the rock climbing in the gorge starts. However, this is not the  end. The rock climbing will be followed with a master class of Armenian barbeque preparation. Whereas the 13th century Noravank monastery surrounded by reddish limestone cliffs will take us closer to Armenian history and architecture. The master classes of Armenian traditional dish of tolma and national bread lavash (national thin bread) preparations with a dinner ends our second day.

Day 3Caving in Magellan Cave - Mount Armaghan Hike

Let’s challenge ourselves with harder challenges. What about exploring ancient, large caves of Armenia? Following the  warm-up session and breakfast with herbal tea, we will dedicate a portion of our day to the discovery of one of the largest and yet unexplored caves of Armenia- Magellan Cave. Equipped with necessary helmets, gloves and flashlights we get an outstanding opportunity to search for rat colonies in this gigantic labyrinth of underground tunnels and chambers. Though Magelan Cave will amaze with its all beauty and incomparable sizes the day is not over. Selim Caravanserai of the 13th century, which hosted lots of traders from China, India and Europe in the Middle Ages, only adds to the topic. The top of the mountain pass provides a miracle view over the cascading mountains gradually disappearing in the horizon.  But this is not the end! Our goal for today is to reach the highest peak of the Geghama Range – Mount Armaghan with 2829 m altitude and its crater lake surrounded by alpine vegetation. The ascent will last five hours with 619 m length. By reaching the peak we will be rewarded with a mind-blowing view over the Armenian and Geghama mountains and the largest lake of Armenia – Sevan lake. After relaxing next to the cold crater lake right on the top and coming down  from the lake we cannot miss the chance not to admire the blue pearl of the country – Sevan lake.

Included Activities:

  • Magellan Cave visit
  • Mount Armaghan climb

Day 4Kayaking at Lake Sevan - Evening by the Fire

On the fourth day we have an amazing opportunity to enjoy the blue pearl of Armenia in the sunrise with its all splendour and water activities ranging from water kayaking to swimming in its refreshing waters. Despite Sevan’s mind-blowing beauty and cultural heritage, we need to head to another region of Armenia – Tavush – the hotspot of natural and mineral resources of the country. On the way to the region we can also visit another 12-13th century monastic complex of Goshavank. The latter is famous for its incomparable well-preserved architecture and the most popular khachkars – cross-stones, a typical cultural heritage specific only to Armenia. However, let’s not forget the main  concept of our tour. So following the lunch we will be headed to check out our adrenaline level by zip lining (optional). For your information, zip lining is flying over the Gorge on steel cables between special platforms. The canyons and gorges that lie below the ziplines are about 200-300 metres high. With its high altitude Zip lining offers five options to try out:  135m, 268m, 200m, 375m and 750m.

Day 5Lastiver Hike

Due to its mountainous terrain and quickly changing landscapes Armenia is an interesting destination for hiking lovers. So on the fifth day we have an outstanding opportunity to hike in the gorge of Lastiver while discovering ancient monasteries, waterfalls, caves, and long cabins. To clear up, the hike distance is 7 km, requiring approximately 2.5 – 3 hours to complete it, while the difference of the altitude of the sea level ranges from 215 m down to 1350 m in the highest peak of the hike. Those who may have energy and willingness can also swim in the cold waters of the crossing river. Sometimes the trail lies right at the edge of the bottomless canyon, where we walk to admire the Lastiver waterfalls. Down here we will have a shortstop and opportunity to enjoy herbal tea. The day is not yet finished. We will transfer to the region of Aragatsotn which is another culturally admirable region of the country with some excursions on the way.

  • Lastiver hike

Day 6Mount Aragats climb

Whole adventure seeking souls, on the last day of our touring program we are challenging ourselves with the highest peak of Armenia- Mount Aragats. Consisting of four peaks, the Southern one is under our attention. The start is given from Lake Kari at the altitude of 3200m filled with snowy and newly rising surroundings. The total climb is about 700 metres and take around four hours to complete. The southern peak of the highest mountain of Armenia will not leave us unawarded. At the top, we are rewarded with gorgeous views over the crater lake, the Armenian Highlands and surely, the Biblical Mount Ararat. After snacking, resting our minds far away from noise and enjoying the well-deserved timeout we will need to ascend the mountain and head for another cultural excursion to the ruins of the ancient fortress of Amberd. Located above the rocks on the slopes of Mount Aragats Amberd fortress stands as a proof for Armenians’ right and willingness to continue to live in their Homeland. However, no tour in Armenia can be considered complete without a traditional wine tasting in any local farm. In this case the Van Ardi Winery welcomes us. Here we have an unordinary chance to try out some of the best wines of the country, to take direct participation in wine making and visit the ancient lands of vineyards. With a special farewell dinner we will announce the end of this unforgettable tour around a glass of special Armenian red wine.

In Georgia and Azerbaijan, it’s advisable to drink bottled water. Local food is mostly local dishes are mostly pleasing to the European palate․ Bees, lamb, and pork are widely used in meals as well as beans, veggies, greens, and fruits.

Couple Traveller

To say that we left Armenia satisfied to say nothing! Armenia is so small country but absolutely amazing and different. We did rock climbing, caving, kayaking, hiking. The terrain changes so quickly, just a couple of kilometers drive brought us to totally different place and views. Antuan our guide – driver was maybe the best guide we have every had during 10 years of traveling. Hotels were well chosen, Tufenkian at lake Sevan was just amazing with an open air heated pool. Make sure you have hat and sun protection cream as Lake Sevan where you do kayak ride is almost 2000 m above sea and it is very easy to get burnt, also Mount Aragats is almost 4000 m., long sleeve jacket is needed.
The trip was absolutely stunning thank you Cascade travel and especially Antuan.
